What I have learned and experiences throughout the class:

At first when signing up for this class I really had no idea what to expect and what kind of projects we would be doing throughout the semester. I was pleasantly surprise with the knowledge I gained in the field of journalism and the continuation of perfecting my digital media skills. Also I have gained a deeper insight on how important tasteful self-promoting through professional social media and content is. Throughout the semester I gained good documentation skills related to real life events by going to Tome Hill on Good Friday and creating a video, opposed to a film in which the story is created and planned ahead of time. I really enjoyed how this class was more directed towards journalism, which is a field with more job security than a independent filmmaker when considering a profession related to media production. I had a recent epiphany that I really don’t see myself trying to become and independent film maker and would consider a position in the news and journalism world of digital media. I think the most useful skill I have taken from this class was the knowledge on how a documentary style video should be put together and composed.

Throughout the class we learned how to share stories and self-promote through multiple different platforms. One that I thought was the most interesting was the periscope app. This application allows users to broadcast video to the public or a specific group of people. This could prove very useful to professionals however not very many are using the app. The broadcasts are normally of people doing things they do in everyday life, a lot of them being groups of people smoking marijuana. With that said I think that it is a great platform for broadcasting an event or interview live to the public, but think that the interface and pollution of non professional material deter professionals from using this form of sharing media. I think I would definitely use the app for local events if they redesigned the interface and allowed for people to put their broadcasts in certain categories that relate to the specific broadcast. Lastly I would like to showcase some of the videos that I have been a part of throughout this semester in the Mobile Reporting class, so check them out below. These have been a great supplemental experiences that have contributed to perfecting my video skills and providing increase exposure to a more documentary style of film-making.
